Caledonian Oban Hotel, Oban - Argyll
The Caledonian Oban Hotel offers you 'Gateway to Argyll and The Isles'. Scenic views, deserted beaches and fascinating wildlife are to be found in abundance. There are numerous walking and running trails, and, of course, regular fishing excursions. Other outdoor activities include diving, bird watching and even, if you're lucky, whale-spotting.
The islands of Scotland are some of the most enchanting places on earth, and Oban is the ideal base from Island hopping and Island tours. Even the tiniest of them has its own individual character and charm. Dramatic sunsets, spectacular scenery and a traditional Scottish island welcome are just a few of the things that await you. Whether you visit one island or island-hop round a few, you can discover your perfect island with Caledonian MacBrayne, sailing to 22 islands and four peninsulas on the West Coast. From Arran in the South to Lewis in the North, you can discover all from the terminal at the harbour, which is only 300 yds from The Caledonian Hotel, Oban. Seafari Adventures offer interactive tours within the Special Area of Conservation, a unique way to experience the wildlife and scenery of the area.
Famous local landmarks include McCaigs Tower, the Falls of Lora and Dunstaffnage Castle. Steeped in history, this was a MacDougal stronghold until seized by Robert The Bruce in 1309 but today all visitors are welcome.
Nestling in a mature spruce forest on the shores of beautiful Loch Creran the Scottish Sealife Sanctuary enjoys one of the most picturesque settings in Britain, and is home to some of the UK's most enchanting marine creatures. In crystal clear waters you can explore over 30 fascinating natural marine habitats containing everything from Octopus to Sharks.
No visit to Scotland is complete without a visit to a working Scotch Malt Whisky Distillery. How better to capture the true spirit of the nation? From mountain to glen and island to lowland, you'll find beautifully sited distilleries still dispensing individual charm, history and the local 'water of life' - all waiting to be discovered.
Ben Nevis Distillery established in 1825, is one of the oldest licensed distilleries in Scotland. The Oban Distillery, looks out to sea from the town centre of Oban. Founded in 1794 by the local Stevenson brothers, who had been involved to some degree in the creation of the fishing port of Tobermory on Mull, the date makes Oban one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland, and it pre-dates the town which came to take shape around it.
